Mendoza Hosts Alberta Companies for a Technical Workshop on Hydrocarbon Management and Investment Opportunities

Mendoza’s Minister of Energy and Environment welcomed a delegation from Alberta for a technical workshop focused on the management of mature oilfields and emerging investment opportunities. Latorre emphasized that both regions share structural similarities, long-standing energy traditions, and a common interest in strengthening cooperation and exploring new avenues for development in Mendoza.

A delegation of Alberta-based companies arrived in the province to take part in a technical workshop and business roundtable aimed at exchanging knowledge, technologies, and best practices in the management of mature and conventional oilfields.

The activities were held at the Diplomatic Hotel, beginning at 9 a.m. with the International Seminar From Alberta to Mendoza: Managing the Complexity of Mature Oilfields, organized by the Argentine-Canadian Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with provincial institutions.

The opening remarks were delivered by Mendoza’s Minister of Energy and Environment, Jimena Latorre, who welcomed the delegation and highlighted the strategic importance of the meeting.

“It is an honor to welcome the delegation from Alberta, a province with which Mendoza shares a productive identity and a very similar vision for the future. Both regions have built their history around energy and natural resources, and today we are advancing decisively toward more diversified, sustainable, and globally aligned energy matrices,” said the minister.

“We also share the challenge and the opportunity represented by conventional hydrocarbons — a segment in which both Alberta and Mendoza have developed technical, regulatory, and operational capabilities that open the door to common strategies,” she added.

Benigno Rojas Moreno, Director of Trade for the Americas for the Province of Alberta, underscored the importance of the timing and the shared priorities.

“We are here because of the central role of energy and mining. This is a very timely moment for Argentina for three reasons: the rise of unconventional oil — which, as the minister noted, is also present in Mendoza — the ongoing interest in optimizing mature and marginal fields, an area where Alberta has deep experience; and a general sense of optimism about the structural changes taking place in the country, to which we wish the very best,” he stated.

Frederic Caldwell, Commercial and Economic Counsellor at the Embassy of Canada in Argentina, highlighted the strategic value of strengthening ties between both industrial ecosystems.

“Building these synergies between companies from Mendoza and firms from Alberta is highly strategic for both countries. Like Argentina, Canada is betting on its energy exports to drive economic growth and sustain macroeconomic stability,” he said.

Following the institutional remarks, Roger McMechan, President of the Canadian Global Energy Forum (CGEF), delivered a technical presentation on Alberta’s operational strategies for managing mature wells, outlining transferable lessons and collaboration opportunities with Mendoza’s industry.

A Delegation with Global Expertise and Advanced Technologies
