Mendoza Strengthens Its Global Mining Presence

The province of Mendoza is reinforcing its international positioning through a strategic agenda in London, led by Minister of Energy and Environment Jimena Latorre, who held a bilateral meeting with the London Stock Exchange and took part in a global roundtable of energy and mining ministers. The mission continues throughout the week with engagements involving authorities, investors, and experts from more than 30 countries, ahead of the London Mining Week—where Mendoza will also have its own stand.

In the lead-up to London Mining Week—the gathering that brings together the most influential figures in the global mining sector—interest in Mendoza’s potential continues to grow. During the second day of meetings, Minister Latorre held a bilateral session with Tom Attenborough, Head of International Business Development – Primary Markets at the London Stock Exchange (LSEG), accompanied by the Director of Mining, Jerónimo Shantal, and the Chief Financial Officer of Impulsa Mendoza, Sebastián Piña.

“We have held several meetings, particularly at the LSEG. The progress reported from last year’s meeting to this year is remarkable: Mendoza is now beginning to develop financing strategies for its projects, meaning the path and the portfolio are advancing to a stage where investments can begin to materialize,” Latorre explained.

“The task and the challenge ahead is to consolidate Mendoza as a financial hub capable of receiving these investments—not only for the province, but for the entire region,” she added.

The day began with a breakfast at the historic UK Parliament, located within the Palace of Westminster, followed by Mendoza’s participation in the opening of the London Stock Exchange. Later, Minister Latorre joined a high-level roundtable that gathered energy and mining ministers from more than 30 countries to discuss global challenges related to critical minerals and the pillars of the G7 Critical Minerals Action Plan.

Besides Mendoza representing Argentina, the roundtable included authorities from Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with delegations from Algeria, Brazil, Botswana, France, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, Timor-Leste, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Zimbabwe, and others.

The discussions followed the G7 Action Plan pillars and focused on three central dimensions:

Building markets grounded in responsible standards

Mobilizing capital for sustainable projects

Promoting technological innovation to support a circular economy for critical minerals

“These sessions allowed us to deepen our work on traceability, transparency, environmental practices, financing mechanisms, and collaboration models between governments, industry, and communities,” Latorre noted.

Throughout the roundtable, participants examined the challenges countries face in securing reliable supply chains—from regulatory requirements and risk mitigation to the need for strategic alliances and new financial instruments. Discussions also explored how to accelerate research, recycling, material substitution, and technologies that reduce reliance on primary extraction.

Following the meeting, Latorre emphasized that these spaces “allow us to compare approaches, understand the regulatory models applied by other nations, and strengthen the strategies Mendoza is developing for a modern, transparent mining sector aligned with the energy transition.”

A Key Starting Point for a Pivotal Week

On Sunday, at the beginning of the official mission, Minister Latorre led a meeting with the Minister of Energy and Mines of Ontario, Canada, Stephen Lecce, accompanied by Shantal and Piña.

The discussion focused on environmental oversight, transparency, and investment promotion in critical minerals. Both jurisdictions agreed on the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation, advancing financing mechanisms, and positioning Mendoza as a relevant player in the international copper and lithium value chains. They also agreed to continue this collaboration at the Toronto mining conference scheduled for March 2026.

Throughout the week, the provincial delegation will continue holding meetings with governments, regulators, technology companies, specialized funds, and international organizations. These engagements will allow Mendoza to present its project portfolio, advance cooperation agreements, attract investment, and strengthen its institutional mining framework.

The mission will conclude with Mendoza’s participation in Resourcing Tomorrow 2025, the United Kingdom’s most influential mining conference, which brings together more than 2,000 global leaders. The province will have its own stand, where it will showcase its opportunities in critical minerals to senior executives, international banks, and energy transition experts.
